"What would I know, darling? I've always been the plot device for someone else's story..."
Part memoir, part fiction, Ire & Salt is a thought-provoking journey about love, autonomy, camaraderie, alienation, and a search for personal and political empowerment.
Set to the backdrop of the Scottish independence campaign, with cameos and conversation from a re-imagined Julia from Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four – Ire & Salt is an artistic response to the tumultuous, inspiring, difficult, thrilling and ultimately contradictory aims of an autonomous individual as part of a fledgling movement with long-term goals, and a cog in the machine of a short-term campaign.
Exploring difficult questions about power, autonomy, leadership, mental health and activism, alongside a tale of love and self-discovery, this show is both complex and witty, heartfelt and humorous; from one of Scotland’s best known performance poets.
On Ire & Salt:
"A complex work... Full of power." (Saboteur Reviews)
On previous work:
"Full of hope, humanity and humour. She writes defiantly, eloquently and inspiringly." (Andrew Eaton-Lewis, The Scotsman)
"A distinctive voice with fire and passion." (Scottish Review of Books)
